  • im 12 and i want to leave my home

Im 12 years old and i want to leave my home. Home should be a place i can be comfortable in and live safely, but i dont feel safe and comfortable. I want to leave as soon as i can and never see my parents again, i feel hesitant and nervous because they might get arrested and bad things may happen. I still care and love them even though they dont. I want to go to an adoption center or a foster care but i dont know how everything works. If running away doesnt work ive been contemplating of commiting suicide or just be homeless. I might seem too young to do this but im sick and tired of the pain that theyve been causing. They keep verbally abusing me with made me fall into a pit of depression and body dysmorphia (not diagnosed) i have started packing if i can possibly leave and go to a safer place. Im scared the cops might get me and bring me back to this hell hole.

Thank you for reaching out to us here at National Runaway Safeline (NRS). We understand that it takes courage to seek help. We are very sorry to hear that your parents are verbally abusive. Abuse is never okay and you don't deserve to be treated that way. You have the right to report the abuse. You could contact CPS, or the police if you don't feel safe at home. Child Help (1-800-422-4453) could help you explore your options and provide you with information on how to transfer custody. It sounds like you are thinking about running away. Having a plan about where you would go and how you would take care of yourself is important. If you decide to runaway, your parents have the right to file a runaway report, with a runaway report, if the police find you they may return you home. You mentioned that you have contemplated suicide. Your life matters ! Although you are going through a tough time at home, you are not alone. Talking to someone about how you feel could help, the National Suicide Hotline (1-800-273-8255) is a great resource for support. If you have any questions or just want to talk, please feel free to contact us directly via our 24 hour crisis hotline (1-800-786-2929), email, or live chat.
Please remember you can reach us directly by calling our 24 hour hotline, 1-800-RUNAWAY (786-2929) or through our Live Chat.
