  • Almost 18 want to work in fl

I ran away from a abusive household when I turned 16. The police didn't do anything so I left. My mother did file a a runaway report to save face ( didn't want to look uncaring with her family). Now I will never step foot back in that house ever in my lifetime if I can help it. I have stayed with trusted people who care. My question is I have 4 more months until I'm 18, can I use my social security to work? I have kept my nose clean and worked honest jobs here and there. However there is a job I don't want to pass up. Is there a way they can find me by simply applying with my social?

    Hello-

Thank you for contacting the National Runaway Safeline. We are very sorry to hear that you experienced abuse in the past. No one deserves to be abused in any way. It is great that you were able to get out and stay with people that you trust and feel safe with.

We are not legal experts here, so we cannot give you an exact answer in regards to information on your social security and if it would alert someone to report if you are missing because a runaway report is filed. We were able to contact a legal ad number in Florida who said they could possibly try to answer your question or better refer you to someone who can. This legal aid number is a confidential number, so they will not report any of your information including where you are located. The number is 1-800-500-1119 ext 3. We urge you to give this number a call to get further information.

You can also give us a call at 1-800-RUNAWAY (7867-2929). We are a confidential 24/7 hotline and can provide you support or provide other resources that may be of better help. If you are uncomfortable with the phone you can also contact us through our online chat. Our chat services can be found through our website www.1800runaway.org and are available Monday-Sunday from 4:#0 pm to 11:30 pm.
We wish you the best of luck!
Please remember you can reach us directly by calling our 24 hour hotline, 1-800-RUNAWAY (786-2929) or through our Live Chat.
