Hello, thank you for reaching out to the National Runaway Safeline. It seems that things are difficult at home right now. You deserve to be in a loving and comfortable home where you can feel safe. We want you to know that we are here for you and will try to help as best as we can.
We’re not legal experts, but can speak in general terms. Generally, if you leave home being underage and without parent’s consent, your parents would have the right to make a runaway report with the police. If a report is made, and the police find you, they can bring you back home and anyone that you stay with could potentially be charged for harboring. Staying with your boyfriend and your family, like you mentioned, can also be an option you can explore with your parent’s consent.
We want you to be safe, regardless of what decision you make. At NRS we have resources, such as shelter and transitional housing agencies. If you are interested in talking with us about your options, we can be reached at our 24/7 hotline 1800-RUNAWAY (1-800-786-2929) or via our chat services from 4:30pm to 11:30pm CST on our website (www.1800runaway.org). We wish you the best of luck and hope to hear from you soon.
NRSPlease remember you can reach us directly by calling our 24 hour hotline, 1-800-RUNAWAY (786-2929) or through our Live Chat.
