  • Need help ASAP

I am 23. My girl is pregnant 17 & about to turn 18 in 2 months. She lives with my parents and myself and her parents are perfectly fine with it and visit us every now and then. Now to my question, If i take her to the clinic myself can the clinic press charges or does that only correspond to my girl and her parents? I've gotten so many different opinions but i want one from someone who is savy with California state laws regarding my situation. Thank you for taking the time to read this

    RE: Need help ASAP

    Hello,

Thanks for reaching out to us for help. It sounds like you are in a tough situation. We are not legal experts, but we can explain some things in general. This link has a good summary of California laws which are relevant to your situation: http://sexetc.org/action-center/sex-in-the-states/.

It looks like the age of consent in California is 18 years old. This means that until your girlfriend turns 18, she cannot legally consent to sexual intercourse, so you are still at risk of having charges pressed against you. It sounds like you have a good relationship with her family and do not expect them to press charges against you. In California, a minor or people of any age can access reproductive healthcare without parental consent, and health care information is confidential. This means that your girlfriend can go to a clinic to access pregnancy tests, prenatal care, birth control, std/sti testing, or abortion services without having to tell her parents and the clinic will keep her information confidential. If you are still not sure, you could call the Planned Parenthood hotline at 1-800-230-7526 to ask if health care clinics ever report this kind of thing to the police, or if they would ever press charges on behalf of a patient who is underage. You can always give us a call if you need to talk.
Please remember you can reach us directly by calling our 24 hour hotline, 1-800-RUNAWAY (786-2929) or through our Live Chat.
