Monmouth Illinois:Runaway laws
Hello,
Thanks for contacting the National Runaway Safeline.
We are not legal experts so we can only offer general information on this subject.
At seventeen you are still considered a minor and in the guardianship of your parents. Packing a bag and leaving home could result in your parents affording their option to file a runaway report with the local police department.
While being a runaway may only be a status (non-criminal) offense however aiding or harboring a runaway is considered a criminal/punishable offense.
You can get more information about the runaway laws or the legal age to move out of your parent’s home by contacting your local police department’s non-emergency number.
We hope that we have been helpful in your quest to get information about your situation.
We wish you the best.
Take Care,
NRS

Monmouth Illinois:Runaway laws
Hi I am 17 years old and need a way out of the life living under my dad's thumb. We constantly argue over stupid crap and I could really use some help with legal issues. Can I pack a bag and legally move out without permission? I have a few friends that offered to let me stay with them. Also my girlfriend's family is happy to take me in. If I do pack a bag and leave can my dad call the cops on me and have them bring me back? If so will they do it?Tags: None
