My girlfriend want to Run Away with me she’s 17, I’m 23

Hello,
I want to know if I will get in trouble if my girlfriend who is 17 run away with me, I’m 23 and her parents are not okay with us being in relationship, but I love her. Plus I’m not a us citizen, will I get in trouble with immigration?

Firstly, we want to let you know that we are not legal experts. In most states, running away is not a crime however, the closer you are to 18 it tends to change things a bit with how the police respond to taking a report. Sometimes the police avoid taking the report when youth are about to turn 18, but it depends on the county and the state you reside in. There is a charge called; “harboring a runaway”, people who let runaway youth stay with them can be charged with that misdemeanor.

Another factor that could change the consequences, if you and your girlfriend runaway, is the age of consent is in your state. Since she is a minor, and you’re considered a legal adult (over the age of 1, it could be illegal. We are unsure what state you’re located in, but sexetc.org is a great website to find out what the age of consent is in your state We recommend that you contact the local police to find out more about how they respond to such situations.
