Thank you for reaching out to us here at National Runaway Safeline. We are not legal experts but from what we know the legal age in which a person can leave home without permission is 18. Running away is not illegal , so you can't get arrested. If you decide to stay with a friend, they could get in trouble for harboring a runaway. However, since you are so close to being 18 the police may not accept a runaway report for you. You could try contacting your local police through their non emergency number. If you don't feel comfortable calling the police, we could contact them for you. If you have any other questions, please feel free to contact us directly via our 24 hour crisis hotline (1-800-786-2929), email, or live chat.
Please remember you can reach us directly by calling our 24 hour hotline, 1-800-RUNAWAY (786-2929) or through our Live Chat.
