hi my name is riley and im a 21 year old agender person. my parents argue a lot and are very homo and transphobic and don’t take my mental health problems seriously (i have bpd but they don’t believe me cuz i hide my emotions around them). one of my best friends offered to take me to live with them in texas, i live in california. can my parents force me back home if im 21? i really want to take this chance but im scared of what my parents would do. please help!

    Hi, there,
Thanks for reaching out. It sounds like you’re in a difficult position right now with your parents constantly arguing and being unsupportive of you. You absolutely deserve to be accepted, supported, respected, and loved. It sounds like you’re wanting to leave home, but are afraid of the consequences of doing so. We’re not legal experts, but generally speaking if you are 21 you are considered a legal adult. Your family cannot force you to come back home. Thank you again for reaching out and hopefully this helps. If you need to talk more specifically about your situation, please feel free to reach out to us at 1-800-786-2929. Best of luck to you!
