In the state of Michigan can my parents force me to go to school if I’m 17? And I’m not talking about like dropping out I just mean like skipping a day because I’m having bad anxiety.

Hi there, thanks for sharing about a little bit about what is going on. It sounds like things are a bit stressful and difficult for you right now. We are here to support you through this tough time.
Anxiety can be really debilitating and hard to deal with alone. But you are not alone! We are here for you to help you find more support around you as well. Do your parents know about your anxiety? Is there any adult you trust to talk to about it? Perhaps having someone help you talk to your parents about how you’re feeling may make it easier. We also offer conference calling here so if you would like our help in speaking to your parents (we serve as an advocate to keep the conversation productive and make sure you are heard) about this anxiety, call us anytime, toll-free at 1-800-RUNAWAY (786-2929).
Since you mentioned wanting to skip school due to this anxiety, we wonder if school brings it on. If so, speaking with a favorite teacher or school counselor may be helpful. There may be services for you to ease some of the stress. You may also consider speaking with a therapist. Here is a resource to find one near you: samhsa.gov, 1-877-726-4727. If you are interested, we can help you find a therapist near you if you call, chat or email us and let us know where you are located. We are always confidential so we never ask for your name or anything like that.
As far as your question of if your parents can make you go to school, you are a minor so they are responsible for your education and they can make sure you get to school. Again, you know your parents best as far as what they will do or how far they will go to get you to the school.
It was really brave of you to reach out and share about this. We realize it is a hard thing to talk about sometimes. We are here to listen and support you. Call 24/7 or chat 4:30-11:30pm CT daily! Best of luck!
Please remember you can reach us directly by calling our 24 hour hotline, 1-800-RUNAWAY (786-2929) or through our Live Chat.

        Hello,

The flu is really rough and we hope you recover soon! It sounds like you are not happy with your current school situation. I hope we can help with coming up with some options for that as well as anything else you’re going through. As you mentioned, one of them maybe helping you and your mother evaluate a boarding school option. We offer a conference call service where we will be advocates on your behalf when talking to your mom about schooling options. If you want to call us at 1-800-786-2929 we can talk through this process along with your situation in general. We hope you feel healthy again very soon and hope to hear back from you as soon as possible.

        We are here to help.
