Hey guys! Ok, so i need help with something very important. My mom wants to move to NC, but i want to stay here in FL. In currently 17 and i will be turning 18 on July 23. Can i legally move out by the age of 18 without her telling me to stay or forcing me? Another question. Can i move out even if I'm 17, but my birthday is a few days away? I've heard that sometimes they allow you to stay at home or they let you go. But ive been searcging and nothing has popped up. PLEASE! SOMEONE HELP ME! I just dont want to be classified as a runaway and get in in trouble. I will be staying with my big sister if everything goes as planned. I really cant stay here for much longer(in this household, at least). Please help me. Any and every tip or help is very much welcomed. so Thanks

RE: 17 year old female needs help
Hello,
Thanks for reaching out to us for help. It sounds like you are in a tough situation. You said your mother is moving, and you want to stay in Florida. Once you turn 18, you will be considered a legal adult and your mother has no legal authority to prevent you from living where you want. It sounds like you are planning to stay with your sister. We are glad to hear that you have support from family right now. Is your sister’s place a safe and stable place where you can stay?
If you leave before you turn 18, your mom might be able to file a runaway report with the police. Running away is not a crime, and since you turn 18 in less than a month, the police might not do anything or make you go back home. If you need someone to talk to about this, we are here 24/7 to listen and support you in any way that we can. Please don’t hesitate to call. We are looking forward to hearing from you and wish you the best of luck. Please remember you can reach us directly by calling our 24 hour hotline, 1-800-RUNAWAY (786-2929) or through our Live Chat.
