  • Runaway Laws

I've been told, but with no real assurance, that in the state of Georgia if a 17 year old leaves home the police can't force the minor to go home, is this true? If this is in fact the truth how does the situation work with housing? If I wanted to get an apartment of my own would I face troubles because I'm under 18? If I become someone's room mate will they be at risk for being charged with harboring? Also, if a minor ran from home to Canada what action would be taken? If the runaway was 16? 17?

    Re: Runaway Laws

Thanks for contacting us here at NRS! It seems as if you or someone you know are thinking about being on your own, but you have a few concerns. What goes on at home that makes you not want to be there? If you were to tell us what city you lived in in Georgia, we will provide you with a legal source so that you can ask the neccessary questions and get them better answered. For now, if you want, you can call us 1-800-RUNAWAY and talk with someone and think about the different options that are availavble to you.
Please remember you can reach us directly by calling our 24 hour hotline, 1-800-RUNAWAY (786-2929) or through our Live Chat.
