  • Pregnant runaway

Hi. I'm 17 and I just found out two days ago that I'm a couple weeks pregnant. I live in Florida and turn 18 in 1 month and 28 days. I was wondering if I left home maybe 1 month before my 18th birthday could my parents file a runaway report and if I'm found have me return home. They're very strict and would seriously punish me if they found out I'm pregnant. I'm planning to move in with my boyfriend who is also 17 turning 18 in 1 month and 12 days. He lives with his dad and older sister, but his dad is kind of like my parents, but just a little cooler so we're trying to move out of there as soon as possible too. My 14 year old brother knows where my boyfriend lives so he might tell my parents if I runaway. I've been dating my boyfriend 1 year and 15 days without my parents knowing.

    Pregnant runaway

    Hello,
Thanks for contacting the National Runaway Safeline.

It sounds like you are thinking about leaving home before you turn 18yrs of age and was wondering what might happen if you were to be reported as a runaway. Your parents have the option of contacting the police to file a runaway report however it is up to the police as to whether or not to pursue it. Sometimes when the minor is so close to turning eighteen the police might decide that they are old enough to leave home. This mind you is up to the police department and or officer that responds to the request of your parents.

We understand your concern with being pregnant and having your parents find out.
When you say punish you what do you think they might do?

NRS is here to listen and here to help. Perhaps you would consider calling 1-800-Runaway (786-2929) and tell us more about your situation and explore options. How does that sound?

We hope to hear from you soon.

    Take Care,
    NRS
