If your parent or guardian reports you a runaway three months after you left their household can they get into trouble?

  • #2
    Hey there,

Thank you for writing to us here at National Runaway Safeline (NRS). We are here to help in any way we can.

It sounds like you have runaway and your parent’s didn’t report as a runaway when you originally left. Unfortunately, we’re not legal experts. We know that running away isn’t something that minors can be arrested for. As far as parents getting in trouble for not reporting the youth right away, is something we’re not sure of. We offer to call out to police with youth, to get the exact answer to your question. If you’d like us to do that with you, don’t hesitate to call into our safeline! We also offer to do conference calls between youth and their parents, if you need help talking to them.

Again, we are so thankful that you reached out. We are always here and if you want to talk more about the option that we mentioned, or just need someone to talk to don’t hesitate to contact us.

    Be well, NRS
Please remember you can reach us directly by calling our 24 hour hotline, 1-800-RUNAWAY (786-2929) or through our Live Chat.
