  • I'm being kicked out at 18 can I keep my clothes?!

my parents are kicking me out of my house and threatening to withhold my clothing that they bought me as well as belongings I paid for. Are they leagally allowed to do so?

    Hi there,

Thanks for reaching out to our forum. We appreciate you taking the time to write a post and we hope that our response will be helpful.

It sounds like your parents are making your life difficult. We’re not legal experts but we have heard of situations like these. The items that your parents bought you are technically their belongings. To get back the items you bought, you can always call your local police, and ask them to escort you to the home. Or ask them about the rights you have over those belongings. They may ask for receipts or proof that you bought those items.

If you need help getting on your feet, as far as shelter resources or counseling resources, don’t hesitate to give us a call. Our safeline is open 24/7.

    Best, NRS
