i really want to leave my house. I can't live here anymore. There's yelling and screaming and fighting all the time and it's so stressful. I've been calm and trying to stay away but now my mother threatened to turn off my internet and cell phone service and take away car privileges. And I just can't live here anymore. They won't let me leave though. I'm 26 and still in school in Ohio and I need to leave my house. How do I leave with a place to live?

    Hi there,

Thanks for reaching out to NRS through our forum. We understand that you’re going through a tough time and we’re here to help!

It sounds like home life is really stressful due to yelling and fighting. It’s totally understandable why you’d want to get out of that environment. You said that you’re 26 years old, which means you’re an adult. Being an adult, you definitely have the right to decide where you want to live. No one is legally able to keep you from moving out. If your mom is physically stopping you from leaving, you have every right to call the police. If you need an emergency placement, we can help find you a shelter for the night. Most of our resources are youth based, but we can definitely try our best to find resources for you. Our safeline is open 24/7 so we’re always a call away.

    Be safe, NRS
