Re: help
Thanks for contacting the National Runaway Switchboard. You wrote that you think you are in a lot of trouble and that you are worried you are going to jail. What would bring up these concerns? Were you in any legal trouble before you left home? Are you worried that you may face legal consequences for things you did while away from home? While we are not legal experts here and we can’t predict how the police will respond, usually running away itself is not illegal (although in some cases it is a violation of probation). You wrote that you are worried that you might go to jail once you get home. Do you think that if you returned home someone there might call the police and try to get you put in detention? If you are willing to share some more details of your situation, we might be able to help you out more. Give us a call at 1-800-RUNAWAY. We are here 24/7 and we are completely anonymous and confidential. Also, if you are interesting, we could help you get in touch with your legal guardians so that you could talk with them about what it will be like once you get home and develop a plan for a smooth transition. Plus, if you need transportation home you might be able to use our Home Free program. Going home can sometimes be scary because you don’t know exactly what it will be like, but it sounds like you might like to try returning home. The National Runaway Switchboard is here to support and help you with this.
Good luck,
NRS
