Where are courts that allow emancipation in New Jersey?

Child Help could also answer questions about possibly having custody transferred to someone else.

Hi I'm a 16 year old boy in Thornton, CO and I have been physically abused by my grandpa. I don't want to live with him anymore and I want to be emancipated by this family that have been taking care of me. I also want to be able to work and live with the family I am with right now and not the ones I actually live with. Can you guys please help me out?

New Jersey does not have a formal statute for emancipation, so there is no formal process for you to petition the court for emancipation anywhere in the state of New Jersey. It looks like minors MAY be considered emancipated when the minor has been married, or has entered military service. You would need your parent's permission for both of those things, and even in states where emancipation is legal, your parents would have to appear in court and agree to emancipation. We aren't legal experts, so if you would like to know more about your options, you could always reach out to a lawyer or attorney. Hi, I'm a 15 year old girl living in New Jersey. I'm not being physically abused, but I'm very unhappy living with my parents and I'm looking into emancipation once I turn 16. I want to finish high school and go to college.
