17 Sophomore Wanna Move Out (NV)

Hi I turned 17 in March of 2017 and it's now July and I wanna move out from where I am. My mother passed away and my dad is not in my life so I live with a family member but she treats me like crap! I get a monthly check from a trust fund from my mother and the relative I'm living with takes most of it every month I do get it. I want to move in a different town or my brother until I can get a job. I also had my mothers vehicle but the relative I am staying with sold it and spent all the money that she did get out of it. My situation sucks right now and I want some advice on how I should react to all of it. I plan on not giving her a DIME out of this months trust check I do get.

Thank you for writing us. So sorry to hear that you are being taken advantage of. You deserve to have people in your life who treat you well, such as your brother.

Typically, the age of majority in most states is 18. However, in some states, they say youth can leave at 17. A way to verify this would be to call your non-emergency police number to ask them their policy for 17 year olds who leave. If they abide by 18 as age of majority, then your aunt could file a runaway report. If she files a runaway report, police nationwide will be alerted that you left. Many times, a police officer brings the child back home.
