Foster Care?

So, I don't want to go too deep into details, but I don't like it at home. I want to join a new family but it seems the only way is to either live with a friend, or go to foster care. My mom keeps saying that if I want to leave I can leave and she won't care. I was talking to her today and she said she doesn't care if I leave and go to a foster family. One day I'm considering really asking about it. I want to know, can I get put in foster care just because I want to (with parent consent of course)?

Being placed in foster most often means that the authorities or police have found your home to be unfit for you and they have decided to remove you from your home. We are not legal experts, so we don't know for sure if you are able to choose to leave and live with a foster parent just because you want to. But it is unlikely that you can do so. Most times your parents have to give up their parental rights or you have to be placed into foster care. You can contact a legal resource, or CPS for more information.
