I'm 15 and looking to runaway from Wisconsin to California and seeking others to join

I'm 15 and very street smart, I will easily be able to live on my own and I'm looking for other kids who would like to join me on the way, it'll be chill af and an interesting experience, I will be on bike and power through the 8 day bike ride, my family is an ok family but I'm nothing like them and they don't necessarily like me and I have no problem with that considering I enjoy being independent and wouldn't mind finding other kids who feel the same and want to get away from their family. I do enjoy smoking marijuana but I'm not seeing a possibility that I would be able to smoke on our runaway nor am I addicted or abuse drugs or anything, I simply enjoy smoking marijuana because it's a very calm and relaxing drug, I don't do any other drugs nor will I even if offered. Marijuana is legal for a reason and while I am under age I do enjoy it just like anybody else of age. I am no "druggie" and look like a regular teenage boy with flared up hair and a sharp jawline.

Thank you, so much, for reaching out and posting to this forum. Just to let you know, we here at NRS are not legal experts, but can speak generally about the legality of leaving home. While running away is generally not considered illegal, it is a status offense, meaning you’re not allowed to do it because you’re underage. Although running isn’t illegal in most areas, harboring a runaway is. You didn’t mention where you plan to sleep during the bike trip or when you arrive in California, but any adult that knowingly lets a runaway youth stay with them and doesn’t contact the police, the youth’s legal guardians or CPS, they could get in trouble for harboring a runaway. Most youth shelters would also require guardian permission to let the runaway stay.

Since you’re a minor, your parents/legal guardians have the right to file a runaway report with the police. This report gets put into their national database. Depending on the police department, that may be the extent of what the police do as far as trying to locate you goes. Some police departments though will search for you by talking to friends, family, school or tracking records (phone, ATM cards, computer, etc). Generally, when a runaway youth is found they are returned home. Sometimes the youth may be held in juvenile detention or a shelter until their parents can come and pick them up.

In addition to where you might stay during your travel, other elements to consider might include how and whether you will be able to earn money to survive, whether you will continue school and if so how you might be able to enroll, what you might do if trouble or difficulty arises. I guess I'm going to try to pan handle for money and bring roughly 1000 with me until I'm 18 and for biking there it will take me about 8 days or a little more depending on sleep which I'll do under a bridge or in a tree I don't really care that much

Some things to think about might be what you’ll do if someone approaches you and makes you feel unsafe, where you will stay in California, how long $1000 will last you and how you’ll get enough income when that runs out, and if you will continue school. You mentioned that you would stay under a bridge or in a tree, we encourage you to plan out some safer alternatives for shelter. After reading through your post here, we don’t have a clear answer for you. We know that every computer has a corresponding IP address when connected to a computer network and internet. Since we don’t know much about the subject, we can’t say what the police might be able to do with that if they were to get ahold of it or your email (ie. track your location). We don’t have any suggestions on who you might be able to ask either, besides reaching out to your local non-emergency police for your county and asking.
