Hello there, thanks for reaching out.

Sounds like you and your boyfriend are looking to leave your house because of the verbal abuse and the amount of people there. You do not deserve to be harmed in anyway. It totally makes sense that you want to live away from that, and provide a safer environment for your child.

The easiest way you can leave home before you turn 18 is with your parent’s permission. This might be really difficult to get, but it sounds like their house is overcrowded so they might be okay with it. They do not have to give up custody of you to allow you to live elsewhere. If you leave without permission, your parents do have the right to file a runaway report for you with your local police. If you are found, you typically would be returned home.

Another way you could possibly leave home is through emancipation. If your state has the emancipation option and you are financially self-sufficient, you can petition the court for emancipation. It is a court process where you would attempt to prove that you are better off living away from your parents to a judge. Typically the first step of emancipation is to contact a lawyer. If you get married before you turn 18, you are usually automatically emancipated from your parents’ care. Please call or chat us if you want to learn more about emancipation in your state.

Please do not hesitate to call if you are in need of legal resources or would like to talk more about your situation. Our phones are 24/7 and we are here to listen, here to help.

    Best of luck,
