  • Im LGBT and not safe at home

Over the last few years ive done a lot of self discovery and come to realize something's abput myself. My parents are very anti-lgbt and may have begun to catch on to me. I'm 17 and if i went to live with a friend or at a shelter I want to know if my parents can drag me back home, because they will.

    Hello,

In general, if you are under the age of 18 and you decide to leave home, yes your parents can file a runaway report for you and make you return home. It could cause legal problems for the person you are staying with, since they could be charged with harboring a runaway. There may be shelters in the area if you are on the streets homeless. But you staying at a shelter is only possible temporarily, as they have to contact your parents within a certain period of time.
