Hi there, thank you for reaching out. It sounds like you have been having a lot of issues at home and are wanting to go stay with a friend until you are 18. It also sounds like you have asked your parents about this and they are okay with it. The best way to go about living with a friend, is to have your parents’ permission, which it seems like you do. It’s also important to know that even if you do leave, and then they change their mind, that you could be forced to go back home. We are here to support you and discuss this further if you are interested. If so, please call our hotline 1-800-RUNAWAY (786-2929) or chat us online at 1800runaway.org. We hope to hear from you soon.
      Be safe,
      NRS

      Hi there,

Thank you for reaching out to NRS. It sounds like there is a lot going on at home that would make you want to leave and we are so sorry to hear that you are going through this. It seems like your parents aren’t acknowledging your struggles with anxiety and I’m sure that’s really overwhelming, especially since your medication may be able to help with your frequent panic attacks. Leaving home can be a really big and scary decision and we are here to talk about safe options and possibly thinking of a plan together.

We want you to know that we are here to support you and answer any questions you may have to the best of our abilities. Though, this may be easier to do if we can talk to you directly through our hotline (1-800-RUNAWAY (786-2929)) or through our live chat on this website. Please consider reaching out to us so we can talk more about what is going on. We hope to hear from you soon.

      Stay safe,
      NRS

      Hello,

Thanks for reaching out to us. We are so sorry that things at home have gotten to the point that you feel you need a break from staying there. It sounds like you are hoping to leave without their consent and you have questions about whether this might be possible. We are not legal experts, but we can share general information that may help you understand your options.

As previous responses on this thread have shared, if you are considered a minor, your parents/legal guardians have the right to file a runaway report if you leave without their consent. Whether your local police will actively seek you out is up to them. If they do, they will typically return you home or ask your parent/legal guardian to pick you up. Depending on the laws in your state, whomever you stay with may be charged with harboring a runaway, which is generally considered a misdemeanor. Calling your local police department at their non-emergency number may help you gather more information on what is or is not legally possible. If you have further questions about your specific situation, or just want to talk, please give us a call or send us a chat.

Whatever you decide, know that we are here to support you. Our contact information is 1-800-RUNAWAY (786-2929); www.1800runaway.org (click on the chat button). We are here to listen, here to help. Stay safe!
