  • I'm 17 and pregnant, can I leave?

I'm 17 and I'm pregnant. When my mom found out she's been making my life miserable. She made me quit my job and said that he raped me. He didn't. He thinks I said that, and my mom called the cops on him and told him ir was all a lie, that I wasn't pregnant and that I said he raped me. She said not her daughter, that I'm a prostitute. I tried running away but she threatened with calling the cops. She hit me, I got bruises and cuts all over me. I'm scared if I get help from someone, she'll call the cops on them too. I told her I already got an abortion. Im still pregnant. I don't wanna live here anymor
    e. I feel alone, like I don't have support. I wanted to be happy and excited about this. I feel so low. Will the cops take me back home if I run away, could she press charges? I live in Texas.

    Hey there,

Thanks for reaching out to us here at the National Runaway Safeline and sharing your experience with us. It is a courageous step to take that is not always easy. It sounds like you are in a difficult situation. Becoming pregnant and feeling unprepared or unsure of what to do next can be a scary thing to face. We are always here to listen and help as best as possible. Taking this step by step can help to make this stressful time a little less overwhelming. Identifying people in your life that you can trust to support you during this time may be a good start to seeking help and exploring your options. Being pregnant, it may be a good idea to really consider how you will be supporting yourself if you leave. We are not a legal resource, but to our knowledge, being 17 doesn't necessarily make you a legal adult in the eyes of the law. So it is possible that your mom can file a runaway report for you if you decide to leave home without permission. You could try calling the non emergency police in your area to see how they would respond to a situation like that. It might be helpful when you are making your decision.

    Take good care,
    NRS
