Im 16 nd pregnant. I already have a well thought out plan. But i ned to know a few questions. Please help. Thanks!!!
. Will the police try to use my social security number to find me?
. Can my baby be taken fom me if i get caught? (I will provide her with food, a stable home environment, education nd love no matter how difficult)
. Can i rent an apartment after im ready to leave the shelter?
. What will happen if i can't afford the medical costs of giving birth at the hospital?
I really hope i can get these answer soon. I hav my reasons for leaving. My mother isn't abusive. Well thank you!!!

    Hello,
Thanks for contacting the National Runaway Safeline.

It sounds like you are pregnant, planning to leave home but you have a few legal questions.
It’s great that you are trying to be very thorough before making your decision to leave. Good for you.
Well, we must inform you that we are not legal experts here at NRS and while we understand your need for information we can only answer these types of question in general.

    1. Once you have been reported as a runaway it is possible the police might try to locate you through whatever means are at their disposal.

    2. We are sorry but we cannot in just say what the probabilities of having your baby taken away are. It sounds like you have every intention of loving and providing for your baby. Has someone threatened you with this?

    3. In most states it is unlawful for a minor to enter into any contracts or leases without parental or guardian consent. There are some shelters that might help you get accepted into a transitional living program. Some of these programs help with independent living for pregnant and parenting teens offering such services as helping to get an apartment, offer parenting skills services along with health care etc.

    4. If you have begun pre-natal care you might consider speaking with your doctor or health care provider about hospital medical coverage.

    Does that make sense?

We hope that we have been of some service to you and that if you have more questions or need more information you will consider calling our 24hr crisis line.
    The number is: 1-800-Runaway (786-2929)
You can also reach out to NRS via our website www.1800Runaway.org where you can check out our NRS live chat option. NRS live chat is available from 4:30pm until 11:30pm (CST).

    Thanks again for contacting NRS.
    Take Care

        Hey there,

Thanks so much for reaching out and sharing a little bit about what’s been going on, we know that it takes a lot of courage. The National Runaway Safeline is located in the United States of America (USA). Our knowledge of helpful community based resources and our understanding of youth in crisis related laws is limited to the USA. If you are located in a country outside of the USA, you can use this link to find a youth helpline in or around your country: https://www.childhelplineinternation...pline-network/.

We hope that by reaching out to a local resource, you are able to get the support you need from an organization that understands the laws and circumstances that affect youth in your country.

        Be safe,
        NRS
