Re: Running Away.
Hi there,
Thanks for reaching out to us. We're here to help the best we can. It sounds like you've been going through a lot at home with your dad that you don't know well, and that has got to be tough. You deserve to feel safe and comfortable in the place that you live. We're glad that you reached out.
We’re not legal experts here, but in most cities and states, the legal age for majority is 18. This is when you would be considered an adult. Either parent or legal guardian can potentially file a runaway report if you chose to take off. If you’re concerned about how specific laws are enforced in your area, one options is to contact your local police department. If you’re uncomfortable doing that, feel free to call us at 1-800-RUNAWAY, and we can look up any available legal resources near you.
Whether or not you’ll be able to find a job, or how a potential employer will process your information, including your SSN, are uncertain. It sounds like there have been some unpredictable circumstances set up for you lately, and that can be challenging. Reaching out for guidance and looking to make positive change are both great steps in creating a better life for yourself. Your safety and happiness are important, and if you’d talk about your living situation and options, don’t hesitate to contact NRS; our hotline is available 24/7.
Good luck and stay safe,
NRSPlease remember you can reach us directly by calling our 24 hour hotline, 1-800-RUNAWAY (786-2929) or through our Live Chat.
