  • running away at 16 Europe to U.S.

Could authorities take action over any case from running away to the United States from Germany? I am 16 and am don't speak German putting me years behind in school here. this is because my parents can't enroll me into an English speaking school. so I feel the need to move to the US with my boyfriend that is a legal adult, so that I may pursue my educational career in hopes of making it into a university. I have been kicked out from my father's house in the states resulting for me living in Germany with my mother.
Is this illegal and could I get in trouble.

Thank you for reaching out to us at the National Runaway Safeline. It sounds like you are in a difficult situation, and we understand it takes courage to reach out for help. We are not legal experts, however we can give some general information. Running away across international borders comes with big risks, and travel and immigration to the USA is highly regulated. You would probably need your mother's permission, as well as a passport and visa, which can take time because of the application process. You can go to https://travel.state.gov/content/visas/en.html for more information.
The National Runaway Safeline is located in the United States of America (USA). Our knowledge of helpful community based resources and our understanding of youth in crisis related laws is limited to the USA. If you are located in a country outside of the USA, you can use this link to find a youth helpline in or around your country: http://www.childhelplineinternationa...where-we-work/
We hope that by reaching out to a local resource, you are able to get the support you need from an organization that understands the laws and circumstances that affect youth in your country.
Please remember you can reach us directly by calling our 24 hour hotline, 1-800-RUNAWAY (786-2929) or through our Live Chat.
