im 17 and want to leave home

hey. So im a 17 year old guy living with my parents in Ny. Im a jr. in highschool right now and i want to move out of my parents home for my sr year. I dont turn 18 till december 2017 but i want to move before that. I do not have a car or job but i have a friend whos parents offered to give me a place to live. My parents are very against it but its what i want. I guess my questions are:
Can i move out legally?
and
If i move out and my parents call the cops are they going to bring me home?

Thanks for reaching out to us. You mentioned that you are planning to move out before you are 18, you don't have a car or a job. That being said, you might want to consider what you would do if you can't live with your friend anymore for some reason. Your friends family isn't necessarily required to provide food and money to you, for you to support yourself and things like that. We are not legal experts so we can't say what exactly will happen if you decide to leave. In general, yes your parents can file a runaway report for you and have the police look for you. Also, in most cases you need consent from your parents in order to legally live with someone else. Your parents are usually responsible for you legally until you turn 18.
