I'm 15 and planning to runaway really soon, and my older brother agreed to go with me. However, we're not really related. My parents have been planning to adopt him but haven't done it yet. He's 18 and I'm worried that if he comes with me he could be charged with kidnapping or something and go to prison. What kind of legal issues would he have to deal with if he came with me?

Hello,
Thanks For contacting the National Runaway Safeline.
You present a great question but unfortunately since we are not legal experts we are not in a position to give legal advice.
From what we are aware of in general anyone aiding or harboring a runaway may face legal charges and possible court appearances from those charges.
We do not know to what extent the penalty if convicted might carry.
You might consider contacting NRS at 1-800-Runaway (786-2929) or www.1800Runaway.org (Live Chat) to speak more about your situation.
We can also try to assist you with locating legal aid services in your area.
Great job reaching out and we hope to hear from you soon.
Take Care,
