I am 17 years old with a 1 month old baby. Can I legally leave home in the state of Georgia without being forced to return?

    Re: 17 in Georgia

Thanks for reaching out with your questions and concerns. You mentioned that you are 17 and have a child and it sounds like you would like to leave home but unsure what would happen if you do. Is there something going on that is making you want to leave? In most states the age of majority, when a youth is considered an adult, is 18. So it’s possible if you leave home your parent/guardian could make a runaway report and the police may make you return home. But 17 is a tricky age and it is difficult to know how each police force will deal with every situation. It may be helpful to try and just contact your local law enforcement on a non-emergency number and just ask a few general questions on if they take reports or make youth return home who are 17.
