  • can i leave hime and not return

I am 17 years old I will be 18 in November. My mom is abusive mentally, emotionally, and physically. She has hit me and is constantly saying she brought me in this world and can take me out. She calls me fat and stupid. She has no job no money and I am constantly moving around since June I have been in 14 different hotels, and 4 different states. Her and her bf have sex with me in the room wide awake and she let's him touch her when I'm awake. I have slept in our vehicle in the freezing cold and have gone with out food. My bf has a job and a place if I was 2 go stay w him and not return home would the police make me go back to her. My Mom is very violent and threatens me on a daily basis multiple times. I have a job lined up but am not aloud 2 take it. I am scared to stay w her and so much want to leave.

RE: can i leave home and not return

    Hello,

Thanks for reaching out to us for help. Nobody deserves to be abused, and it sounds like you have been through so much. It is understandable that you would want to leave in those conditions, and it sounds like your mother’s actions with her boyfriend are inappropriate. You should know that you have a right to a safe place to stay. If you are interested in making a child abuse report, we can help you with that. We can also talk to you about other options if you decide not to report. You should be aware that your mom can file a report with the police if you run away, and they might make you go home. This is especially true if they do not know about the abuse and the situation at home. Since you are close to turning 18, it is unclear whether or not the police will force you to go home. You might try calling your local police non-emergency number to ask if they take police reports for 17 year olds, and how they usually respond to those reports. We are here to listen and support you in any way that we can, so if you need someone to talk to about your situation, we are here for you 24/7. We are looking forward to hearing from you, and wish you the best of luck.
Please remember you can reach us directly by calling our 24 hour hotline, 1-800-RUNAWAY (786-2929) or through our Live Chat.
