  • Leaving home and parents dont like boyfriend!!!!!!!Need answers now!!!!!!!

okay so im 16 turning 17 in December. I have been with this boy since i was 13 and yeah we did bad but we stopped and tried to do things right this time and my parents are acting like jerks. So about a couple of weeks ago I left home and pretty much my parents didnt stop me they let me leave and didnt call the police. i went back to my boyfriends house and his parents got home the next day and we sat down and told the whole situation of what happened on how my parents didnt even stop me and pretty muc kicked me out with no shoes. they left me there and my mom lied bout me being there and said to my dad i was with someone a relative the whole 3 days i was gone. His parents didnt object to me being there then my mom finally realized that i actually didnt want to come home and begged for me back. i didnt want to come home and she agreed in the end to let me stay with my boyfriend. then 2 days later she threateend to call the police. Can she do that even after she agreed and there were witnesses to tell? Can she charge them for harboring a runaway? Also me and my boyfriend had sex and hes 18 just turned and i am possibly pregnant can she make me abort the baby? I got beat yesterday night cuz i went to the clinic during schoool he took me to check and its true. im scared to tell cuz my dad said he would beat me again if i was. he left me with two black eyes and bruises all over. im scared idk what to do. is it possible to go back and leave with my boyfriend or would he go to jail? can i go back even after she approved the first time that i could stay? what are my options? i dont want to run away from home nor go to a shelter cuz im very bright in school and dont want to leave the program i am in going to a shelter i would lose it all. my boyfriends parents are supportive but mine arent. can i go back and live with him? will the police take me away? can he go to jail?

RE: : Leaving home and parents dont like boyfriend!!!!!!!Need answers now!!!!!!!

    Hello there,

Thank you for reaching out to us. It sounds like you have left a very dangerous and toxic situation. You do have the right to feel safe and wanted in your own home. Have you ever thought about reporting the abuse? If you still have visible bruises, it may be a good idea to go to a hospital for documentation or take pictures. You mentioned that you may also be pregnant. Nobody can force you to give birth, or get an abortion. You have control over what you want to do. Planned Parenthood at 1-800-230-7526 can help you figure out how far along you are, and what your rights are.

We are not legal experts. However, we can explain a little about the runaway laws. Technically it’s not against the law for you to run away from home. In most places it’s considered a ‘status offence’. However, your mom does have the right to report you missing. Even though she changed her mind after giving you permission to leave, she does still have the right to send the police over to your boyfriend’s house. Some states will charge someone for ‘harboring a runaway’. However, if there is abuse or neglect in the home, you can tell the police what happened and why you refuse to return. You can also look into some legal aid assistance, or getting a lawyer to fight any charges that occur.

You mentioned that going to a shelter is not an option for you. Typically if you report the abuse a social worker may remove you from the home and place you with a foster family or a youth shelter. They do not usually let you stay with a significant memory but it may be worth asking. The only other way to legally leave home is to become emancipated.
You do have some options, and we would be happy to help you come up with a few realistic solutions. We hope to hear from you soon and wish you the best of luck.

leaving home and parents dont like my boyfriend! Need answers now!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

so i cant do anything? even if i have visible bruises all the police will do is just send me to a shelter? i cant just go live with him? i live in Florida so i cant leave my home and goes to his even though his family is welcoming me? i have no choice but to stay home cuz my parents literally mocked me into calling the police that im stupid and what not. i hate it and im afraid to call the police cuz then they will be like oh theres no abuse when there really is. so if she were to let me live at his house i could thats the only way in florida to do it?

RE: Leaving home and parents dont like boyfriend!!!!!!!Need answers now!!!!!!!

        Hello again,
It sounds like you want to go to your boyfriend’s house and not have anyone get in trouble. The only way to go live somewhere without your guardian is either though child protective services, where they would remove you from the home. The second option is to become emancipated. This process typically involves going to court and petitioning to become legally separated. That can often take time and money. Is your boyfriend and his family willing to take that risk for you?
Here at the National Runaway Safeline, we cannot tell you what you should or should not do. We can however help you come up with some ideas on what your next steps will be. Please call us for further assistance. Stay safe and good luck.
