  • Can I move out?

I'm 17 years old and graduated high school a month ago, June. My mum has kicked me out 3 times within a months time period. Although the 3rd time as she says, "I was calling her bluff." She didn't really think I was going to leave. Even though she told me don't come back and to bring her the house keys and she cut my phone. She didn't cut my phone on until at least 3-5 days later because my brothers friend texted my brother saying I was homeless and I wasn't.
My big question is, with all that being said can she force me to come home? & can she call the cops reporting me as a runaway? Although I have a place to stay, I have a job, graduated and will be 18 this coming March. I want to get emancipated but I don't believe you can do that in Ohio. PLEASE help me if you can because I don't want to go home.

    RE: Can I move out?

    Hello,
Thank you for reaching out to us at the National Runaway Safeline. It sounds like you are going through a really difficult situation. We are here to help in any way we can.
It sounds like an exhausting situation and it seems as if you want to figure out your options. You can always call in and we can discuss these with you if you would like. No one deserves to be in the situation that you are in.
Here at NRS we are not legal experts, however, you can always call your local police station at the non emergency number to find out if your mom can force you to come home and also if emancipation is an option for you. If that option does not work for you, you can always call us at 1800-RUNAWAY to discuss another option.

If you'd like to talk further, would you consider calling us? We're available 24 hours a day and 7 days a week on our Safeline at 1-800-RUNAWAY (786-2929). You can also chat with us by going to www.1800runaway.org. Chat is available every evening from 4:30 to 11:30 pm Central time. We hope to hear from you soon.

    Best of luck,

    NRS
Please remember you can reach us directly by calling our 24 hour hotline, 1-800-RUNAWAY (786-2929) or through our Live Chat.
