Can I text my boyfriend?

My parents have been upsetting me a lot lately. I cry every other day. In the past year I really relied on my boyfriend to comfort me. I'm 16 and he's almost 19. Here recently he confronted my parents about how their actions are hurting me. They told him he was a liar and that I never cry or anything. Now I'm not allowed to see him ever again and when I try to contact him they get mad. Can they do this? And if so if I bought my own phone to contact him could they still keep us from talking?

It sounds like you really care a lot about your boyfriend and your parents are trying to keep you two apart. Legally there is no way to prevent you two from speaking without getting the courts involved in. If there are no legal documents that forbid you two from keeping in contact, then there shouldn't be an issue. However since we do not have a legal background, it may be best to contact a legal aid organization or your local nonemergency police hotline.

Can they punish me for texting him or keep me from texting him?

Obviously we can’t say if your parents would punish you or not if they found out that you were texting your boyfriend but it may not be possible for them to take legal action against it. If you wanted to provide your city/state we may be able to provide a legal aid number for you to speak with if you would want more information on that.
