Hi, I am 13. I want to runaway because my mom and step dad are way to strict. I have been thinking about this for a long time. I talked to my aunt and asked if i can live with her. Then i told my mom I wanted to live with her She said no. Some times my mom calls me names like I am a brat and that I have mentail Issues. I really miss my grandma. Some thing happened I guess and my mom went to court and now I am not allowed to see my grandma untill I am 18. My mom has also said that when i turn 18 on my birthday that she was going to kick me out of the house so i can be a bum on the street. I have also talked to my friend who talks my out of running away, but the thought always comes back. I need advice on what to do!!

RE: Run away 13
Hello,
Thank you for getting into contact with us here at the National Runaway Safeline, we are happy that you reached out. We are always here to listen and help in any way that we can. From what you have stated, it sounds like you’re going through a very rough time right now. You definitely don’t have to be treated that way. Especially when you’re at home; a place that is supposed to be a safe and loving place for you. You always have the right to report any abuse to your local police department or child protective service in your state. If you don’t feel like you’re not comfortable or if you might not know how to do that, you can always call us anytime you want. There is always someone here to help you.
You’ve also stated that you have been going back and forwards with the idea of running away from your mother, but you’re not too sure with going through with it. It’s great that you have a friend that you can talk to when you have these thoughts. How often do you and your friend talk about your running away? How does that conversation usually go for you? Since you have these thoughts pretty frequently, it sounds like you have given a lot of thought in to what you want to do in your situation. If you were to leave, what kinds of things do you think that your mother would do? What is your overall plan (i.e. housing, transportation, financial stability, school options, etc)?
Once again thank you for writing into the NRS. You can also call into our 24hour hotline (1.800.RUNAWAY) for a more immediate response, as well as connect you to some resources that we might have on hand. If you still choose to runaway and find yourself without a place to stay you can always get into touch with us (toll-free so you can even us a payphone) to provide you with a shelter. Another service that we offer here at the NRS is our chat room which is offered from 4:30pm to 11:30pm/CST (www.1800RUNAWAY.org). If you feel more comfortable with that opinion we are more than welcome to contact us through that.
Look forward to talking with you and best of luck. Please remember you can reach us directly by calling our 24 hour hotline, 1-800-RUNAWAY (786-2929) or through our Live Chat.
