Moving out at 17?

I realize that there are already a lot of threads like the one I am starting, but I felt my situation is kind of unique.

I live with my mother in Minnesota.We don't get along very well and she is very controlling.

I will be graduating high school this spring (2015) and will only be 17. I want to move out as soon as possible, but am unsure if I can? I won't turn 18 until October, so I would have already started college by then. The closest college to where we live is over an hour away, (I don't even have my license) so I will NEED to move out in order to attend. Is there any way she can force me to stay at home until I turn 18, even if it means not attending college? Do I have any rights at all to move out of the house if I am graduated from high school?

We aren't legal experts here so it's difficult for us to answer specifically. In general, if you leave home before you turn 18, your mom has the right to file a runaway report with the police. If the police find you, then they could force you back all the way until you turn 18. It's not illegal for you to run, but you could be forced back. The reason for that is because your mom is legally responsible for you until you become a legal adult yourself. So, in general, yes she could keep you at home even if it means not being about to go to college.

In terms of your rights in this situation, it's difficult to say. If you're looking for a more specific answer, that's a good idea.
