Re: 15 thinking about running from california

Thank you for contact at the National Runaway Switchboard. We are sorry to hear that living with your grandma has been working out for you. It sounds like you have been dealing some changes in your life. And feeling abandon by your mom for her new boyfriend is not a good feeling to have. You had mention that the thought of running away has been on your mind for some time. Here are some questions to think about that could help in making your decision. These are also posted on our website:

    • What else can I do to improve my home situation before I leave?
    • What would make me stay at home?
    • How will I survive?
    • Is running away safe?
    • Who can I count on to help me?
    • Am I being realistic?
    • Have I given this enough thought?
    • What are my other options?
    • If I end up in trouble, who will I call?
    • When I return home, what will happen

Do you feel comfortable in talking to someone about what has been going on for you (mom, grandma, friends, and school counselor)? If you had already talked with someone, did you feel that it was helpful? Do you know who has legal guardianship of you? Do you feel that a runaway report would be filed?

We want to able to provide assistance to you in explore all options. We have lot of resources and referrals that maybe useful. We can also assistance in doing a conference call (it would be you, one of us and the agency/mom) and also passing on messages to your legal guardian. We are a confidential 24/7 crisis line and we do not judge you on your choice. We look forward to hear from you. Our number is 1800-RUNAWAY (1800-786-2929). Good luck.

Well infact i have talked to my mom about it and we have resolved things for now, but i do thank you for your help, and unfortunatly some of my actions from being so stressed out has gotten me in some trouble,(i broke a girls nose because she called me emo) and that has landed me in anger manigement classes but i only blame myself for that.but thank you for all your help and i will get ahold of you again if i need to in the future.
