    Re: What can we do?

    Hello again,

Talking to the police is definitely an option if you'd like to get more information. Whatever makes you feel comfortable. Let us know if we can help further.

    Good luck!

Thank you for replying, that helps. Would you suggest maybe asking one of the local police officers?

    Re: What can we do?

    Hello,

Thanks for reaching out to us. It sounds like you really want to think things through and make a wise choice in your situation. Although we are not legal experts we can give you a few things to think about in regards your questions.

Basically, your girlfriend's mom can file a runaway report in the situation you are describing. However, given that your girlfriend is so close to 18 and that she would have permission from her father to move out, it is unclear exactly how the local authorities would handle such a situation. If a runaway report is filed your girlfriend's father may be able to get involved and explain the situation to the police. Or, perhaps your girlfriend's mother will decide she doesn't want to file the report after all. It's just difficult to say. If no report is made -- or if your girlfriend's dad puts a stop to the report (if that is possible) -- there probably would not be any problem in having your girlfriend move in with your family.

So, ultimately there is some uncertainty as to what might happen. It sounds like you've already done so, but maybe sitting down and talking things through in a calm manner with everyone involved may be a good idea. But that is up to you and your girlfriend. We never tell anyone what to do.

It definitely sounds like you want what is best for you, your girlfriend, and your baby. If either of you want you can always give us a call to talk about this further. We are here 24/7 and are totally confidential and anonymous. Our number is 1-800-RUNAWAY. Or, if you would prefer to use our chat feature on our website you can do that through the red button on the top right of the main page at www.1800runaway.org. Note that our chat room is only open between 4:30pm-11:30pm Central Standard Time.

Again, thanks for your questions. We hope everything turns out well.

    Good luck!

    What can we do?

I live in Ohio. My girlfriend is 5 months pregnant, she is 17 and will be turning 18 in December. The baby is due September 29. Almost everyone thinks it would be best if the baby and she lived with me and my family. I say almost everyone because her father says it would be okay; however, her mother will not let her. Her house is over crowded (its a 3 bedroom and there are 6 people there with 4 big dogs), dirty, and the family dynamics there are off the wall. My house consists of just my mom, younger sister, and me. My house is very clean and even though we have a 3 bedroom house as well, there is a lot more space. In addition, my house is very close to her house so she won't be far from her family at all (they could walk here in about 7 minutes). I have my own car and we both have jobs. So it would be highly beneficial if she lived with me. So my question is: If she has consent from her father but not her mother (they are married and live together so its not like they are divorced and live separate) can she move in with me? Can her mom file her as a runaway even though she has her father's consent?
