Re: The straw that broke the camels back...
Hello,
Thanks for telling us about your story. It must be very frustrating to be going through something like this. Your mom seems to blame you for a lot of things without talking to you beforehand. Has your relationship with your mom always been like this?
The main thing you mentioned was that [this was the last straw]. You feel like you have to run away because you can't take it anymore. Have you ever run away before? Do you have a plan so you know that you will be safe? Do you think you need to stay away forever?
If you feel like this is an emergency, we may be able to help you find some temporary safe places. Please let us know what city and state you are in for services. Also, if you are able and willing, we can better serve you if you make an anonymous and confidential call to our hotline. Please give us a call 24hrs a day at 1800-RUNAWAY.
Best of luck with everything,

Re: The straw that broke the camels back...
Thank you for replieing quickly, i am going to call that hotline when she leaves 2morrow. I am looking at emancipation, can I do that? Or should i ask for some time away? And what do i do if she says no? Would it be rediculous to get an emancipation for this reason? And i did live with my dad for a few weeks last year and my grades got better. This could also be used in an agreement. Couldnt it?

Re: The straw that broke the camels back...
Hi again. We’ll do the best we can to answer your questions, but just keep in mind that we’re not legal expects so we usually only know the general laws and procedures. The problem with a lot of laws is that they change often and are sometimes hard to interpret. First, concerning emancipation, some of the resources we checked said that there was no emancipation in Arizona. However, if you Google emancipation in Arizona there’s a website that says a law was passed in 2005 allowing emancipation as well as outlines the process in detail for how it works in AZ. Check it out: http://www.lawforkids.org/speakup/brows ... ANCIPATION. Most likely you’d go through your county court to start the process. We’d be happy to find the number to your county court if you provide us with your county.
As far as asking for some time away, do you think your mom would go for this? If she agrees, that’s all you need to stay elsewhere. If she says no, and she’s your legal guardian, then you legally wouldn’t be able to go stay somewhere else (without risking that she might file a runaway report on you). The other thing to keep in mind is that she could say yes one day and change her mind the next, so if you want to ensure she sticks to her word you may want to think of ways to keep that from happening. You also mentioned living with your dad. Does he have any legal custody of you? Do you think your mom would agree to let you stay there for a while? It’s great that you have actual “proof” that living with dad could make things better by having your improved grades from last time. Have you talked to your dad about going out there and maybe seeing if he could talk to your mom about it? Have you thought about finding someone not involved in the situation to mediate between you and your mom? Sometimes it helps to have an unbiased person to facilitate difficult conversations. There are definitely organizations that offer family mediation as a service. Actually, one of the things we can do here is conference calls between youth and their parents. Obviously it would be over the phone, so if you and your mom were in the same house it might be difficult to do. That’s just something to remember as you’re thinking through all your options. We can definitely talk to you more about how it works when you call in.
It’s great that you’re looking at all the different options. Just by the little you wrote above it seems you’re trying to find a legal way to not have to live with your mom anymore. We’d be happy to talk to you more in depth about this when you call us tomorrow. Someone is always available, so whenever you get the chance to call is good for us! Best of luck with this. If you have any more questions or concerns and can’t call, feel free to post again. Please remember you can reach us directly by calling our 24 hour hotline, 1-800-RUNAWAY (786-2929) or through our Live Chat.
