I'm 17 and i live in Virginia. I have really bad problems going on at home. I wanted to runaway but its just to much . I have really depression and I'm trying to stay strong but i just can't fight it anymore. My dad is always angry and very strict and just really mean. He doesn't do much physical abuse but he does a lot of verbal abuse. Sometimes i just want to lay down and never wake up. I really want help. And school starts next week and i don't know if i can do it all anymore. I just really need to be away from my dad. ? Is there something out there that can just take me from my dad , so i can get help .? I just need time away. He doesn't want to get me help. He doesn't even let me go over my brothers. He says that no teens need to leave home until there 18. I mean i try in the past to talk to my school consulars but they just never helped me. I need some type of get a way before i just snap. Thank you.

Re: I just need help
Thanks so much for reaching out. It sounds like you are really hurting right now and it has gotten to the point that you are considering leaving home. You mentioned that you live with your dad and he is often times emotionally abusive towards you. It also sounds like you are dealing with some depression issues and while you would like to get help your dad is not supporting you in this. We are sorry to hear you are going through all of this. It sounds like this has been a very emotional time for you but we are so glad you reached out for some help. Is there anyone in your life at this time that is supporting you?
In most states the age of majority, when you are considered an adult, is 18. So at 17 you may not be able to leave your home without your father’s consent but that doesn’t mean that you don’t have the right to be safe and get mental health treatment. It sounds like you have tried to reach out to someone from school but that hasn’t been very helpful. There are certainly people out there that can help and there may even be alternative living situations that may be able to provide short term respite care and work towards making your situation at home safer. If you would like to reach out to someone immediately and discuss some of the depression issues you are dealing with we provided some National and VA specific crisis hotlines below.
