Re: 18 and want to go home
Hello,
Thanks for reaching out to us. Sounds like you're looking for some legal advice. We're not legal advisors and we're not really sure how police will handle this situation.
In most states, the age of majority is 18. That means that at that age you can leave home without consequences. And if that's the case in the state you ran from, you might be ok. However, we're not sure if reports go away once people turn 18 (or whatever age of majority that is in that state). So, the best way to find out is to speak to the source: the police. And reall, it sounds like all you have to ask is that very specific question you asked us: will the police do anything with your old runaway report now that you're returning home.
If you need help making that call, please call us at 1800-RUNAWAY. We're anonymous and confidential and availabel 24/7. Hope to hear from you soon or good luck with your situation. Please remember you can reach us directly by calling our 24 hour hotline, 1-800-RUNAWAY (786-2929) or through our Live Chat.
