    re: 17 in georgia

Thanks for contacting the National Runaway Safeline through our bulletin boards. You are asking a really great question about running away and it seems like you are trying to plan ahead. Have you considered where you might go or how you might survive if you leave? Our website, 1800runaway.org, has a list of things you might want to consider before you go. We just want to make sure that you are safe and have a plan that you are comfortable with.

Running away can pose many questions about the law. While we’re not legal experts, we can tell you that in many places at 17 years old, running away is considered a status offense. What that means is that if your parents file a runaway report on you, you would be returned to them if you were picked up by the police. You can also contact your local police department through the non-emergency line for specific laws in your area. Have you tried talking with your parents about what is going on that makes you want to leave? You are always welcome to call us at 1-800-RUNAWAY 24 hours a day or chat with us from 4:30-11:30pm CST to discuss your situation more. Wishing you the best,

    -NRS

I'm 17 years old. I live in Georgia. If I run away can my parents call the cops to bring me home?
