re: running away at 15
Thanks for contacting the National Runaway Safeline through our bulletin boards. It sounds like you are considering running away and staying away until you turn 18. Because we are not legal experts, we cannot tell you what will happen if you runaway but don’t get caught. In most places if you runaway and a runaway report is filed, and you do get caught, you will be returned to your guardian if the police find you. Is there something going on in particular that is making you want to leave? Running away and surviving for a number of years on your own can provide many challenges. Have you considered how you might survive?
If you have questions about specific laws in your area, you can always call your local police department through the non-emergency line. Additionally, you can contact us at 1-800-RUNAWAY 24 hours a day or chat with us at 1800runaway.org from 4:30-11:30pm CST. If you contact us through chat or the phone, we can gather your specific location and provide you with other resources, such as general legal aid, that you might be interested in. We could also talk with you more about your situation and see if there are other ways we might be able to support you. Thanks for reaching out and we hope to hear from you soon,
-NRSPlease remember you can reach us directly by calling our 24 hour hotline, 1-800-RUNAWAY (786-2929) or through our Live Chat.
