Guest repliedThank you so much for replying at such a desperate time. I have run away before because I couldn't take the pressure and there has been times I have gone to rehab for depression and anorexia which had a part in my moms abuse toward me....I just can't do it anymore and I have many people who can help. I want to finish my highschool education and be successful in America. I can't leave. Thank you so much...

RE: 16 years old with a emotional abusive parent who is forcing to leave the country
Hello,
Thank you for reaching out to us during this difficult time. It sounds like you are very optimistic about your future and would like to finish your schooling here in the United States. Although we are not legal experts, we can give you several referrals to legal aid that may be better able to help you. Justice for Children at 1-800-733-0059 may be able to inform you of what legal options you have available. Public Counsel at (213)-385-2977 also offers pro bono services that specialize in Immigrants Rights and Children’s Rights.
You also mentioned that you have researched emancipation and your mother will not allow it. What other options do you think you have? One option might be to talk to someone at school about what is going on at home. The McKinny Vinto Act states that you do have a right to attend school, even if you are homeless. You mentioned that you have a place to stay that will take care of you. You sound like you are very resourceful. Have you ever run away before?
We are very glad you feel comfortable sharing this information with us. We are available for you 24/7 and are confidential, anonymous and toll-free. We can also be contacted by live chat at www.1800runaway.org from 4:30pm-11:30pm Central Standard Time. We look forward to hearing from you and wish you the best of luck!

My mother is very emotionally abusive and she wants to move back to Russia because her life isint what she expects it to have been...I'm an honor student in choir with so much ahead of me. I'm an American and I love this country. I love California. I can't leave this country and I've begged her. But se doesn't care and she says I have to deal with it. I've never been there and it will be so hard...I'm 16 and I have a place to stay that offers me food and shelter and everything and they promise to do it until I get back on my feet. What can I do? She will never allow emancipation. All I can do it run away. And my God I'm tempted...please help.Tags: None
