re: im 15 and i need out.
Hi
Thanks for contacting the National Runaway Switchboard. We are sorry to hear about the way you have been feeling at home. It sounds like you feel unaccepted and would like to leave home. Running away is generally not illegal but parents do have the right to report minors as runaways to the police. Emancipation can be a lengthy process but there are legal aid services that may be available. However, it appears that in the state of Texas you have to be at least 16 to be considered for emancipation. You also mentioned that you have places you could stay at but doesn’t have the transportation to get to them. Have you discussed staying at one of these alternative places for a short period of time with your mother? If you are interested in staying at a youth shelter, we could provide nearby referrals. In addition to providing housing, a lot of youth shelters have counseling and reunification programs for youth and their family members.
Remember our hotline is available 24/7 and can be reached at 1-800-RUNAWAY (786-2929). In addition we offer Live Chat between 4:30pm and 11:30pm CST.
Best Wishes
~NRS
