  • confused??

    Hi,

I am currently 16 and will be turning 17 in May. It has become nearly impossible for me to live at home with my family. I currently live in florida but I plan to run away to california. My parents refuse to let me see my boyfriend and we have done nothing wrong. Could me and my boyfriend possibly be arrested when we reach california if we run away? Could he be charged with kidnapping? he is only 17.

    RE: confused??

    Hello,

Thanks for reaching out to us. Sounds like you're going through a tough situation. Sorry to hear that your family is not being fair.

What do you think happened that made your parents not let you see your boyfriend? Sounds like something came up and they made a decision without involving you.

As far as your question goes, it's tricky: you'll be considered a minor either way. If you leave home without permission, your parents are probably going to make a runaway report and therefor you will be listed as 'missing' or 'runaway' on a national database. We're not legal advisors so it'd be hard to say if your boyfriend will get in trouble or not but he's a minor as well so there is a chance that he would be in similar trouble as you woudl be in.

Do you feel like you have other options other than running away from home? What is specifically taking you to California? Does anyone else know about you wanting to leave FL? If so, did they offer any good ideas?

Sounds like you're trying to figure out what to do and how not to get in trouble. Trouble is, as soon as you leave home, you might be listed as a runaway right away. If you'd like to explore this a bit more and talk about options that might be available to you. We are available 24 hours a day and here to work with you. You can call us at 1800-RUNAWAY (786-2929). You can also reach us at our live chat between the CST hours of 430p-1130p. We can talk online about what's going on.

Hope to hear from you soon,
    NRS
