At what age can I move out legally without parent consent in Michigan?
Hello,
Thank you for contacting us for support. It sounds like you are having a tough time right now with your mother and imagine this situation has not been easy for everyone. It sounds like you are fed up with it all and need move on. We are not legal experts but the general understanding of most state is that you have to have 18 to leave home withouth consent. A couple of states may be 19 pr 21 but in MI you have to be 18 to leave home withouth permission legally. However, each state can vary depending on how lenient they are and what your circumstances are. In this case we tend to recommend that you contact the local police to find out more about what they might do if your parents were to call you in as a runaway depending on your age.
We are here for you if you need someone to talk to about it all. We are confidential and anonymous. We are here 24 hours a day for support. What is your ultimate plan? We should note that although it is not illegal to runaway from home it is illegal for others to harbor you. It may cause the folks you want to stay with legal trouble if you are under 18 and your parents were to file charges. We hope this info was helpful in some way and that you are able to reach out if there is anything else we can do. Good luck.

Re:
Hi there,
Thanks for reaching out to us. It sounds like you’re looking to move out at the age of 17. We’re not legal experts, but generally speaking if you leave before the age of 18 (the legal age of an adult in most states) without permission, your legal guardians have the right to make a runaway report. If a report is made, and the police find you they would just bring you back home. However, anyone that you stay with could potentially be charged for harboring. One great option that you have as far as finding out what the possibilities are if you leave home would be to call your local law enforcement and just ask hypothetically. If you would like help doing this, you can call us at 1800runaway (786 2929) and we can do that together.
Please do not hesitate to call or chat to talk more. We’re here 24/7 to support you.
Best,
