Re: help report
Thank you for contacting the National Runaway Switchboard. We are not here to tell anyone whether to run away or not run away. We are here to provide support and listen to youth or anyone concerned about a youth who has run away or thinking of running away. We are not legal experts, but to our knowledge running away is just a status offense. That means that youth who haven’t reached the age of majority (18 in most states) cannot leave home simply because they are too young. However, harboring a runaway, contributing to a delinquency of a minor, and crossing state lines with a minor are usually considered misdemeanors.
Also, if you haven’t had a chance to check out the rest of our website, especially the “NRS can Help” section, you might find that helpful too.
Best of luck,
NRSPlease remember you can reach us directly by calling our 24 hour hotline, 1-800-RUNAWAY (786-2929) or through our Live Chat.
