  • What do I do?

My mom threatened to call cps on me for not going to school. She’s been nothing but abusive and toxic. The reason why I don’t wanna go is because I’m mentally drained and I hate being there. She’s did nothing but make me feel worse. I’m not sure what to do. Should I run away? Or should I call cps on her?

Thanks for reaching out to us, it sounds like you've been in a stressful position. It makes sense not to want to go to school when feeling drained, especially if being there makes things worse. You deserve to feel happy and capable, and we hope that if you choose to continue going to school at any point, you're able to do so because you choose to and want to.

Your mother technically can contact CPS if she wants to, but that doesn't guarantee that they would intervene at all. It is possible they might build some sort of plan to try to get you back in school, but not necessarily likely.

You could technically contact CPS regarding your mother's behavior as well, but unless she has been physically abusive, it is realistically not likely that they would intervene. Emotional / verbal abuse is definitely real, and we believe it can be as harmful as physical abuse, but government bodies don't always treat them the same way.

We can talk more about running away if you'd like to. It can be challenging and come with its own set of stressors, but for some people it is the best choice for them.
