  • I ran away from therapeutic boarding school

ll my parents decided to have kidnapped and taken wilderness therapy program they told I would be going to back old school after the program but instead sent to a therapeutic boarding school in Utah.

I've spent the last 24 weeks in wilderness therapy program and then a therapeutic boarding school.

after a month in this school I managed to escape and run away.

I have no idea what to do now I can't go home they'll send me and have lied to me already

    Hi,

Thank you for reaching out to the National Runaway Safeline and sharing your story. We know that takes a lot of bravery.

We are sorry to hear that you were unhappy at your therapeutic boarding school. You do not deserve to be lied to. One thing that may be important for you to do is to find a safe place to stay. If you want to reach out to us by calling us at 1-800-RUNAWAY or chatting with us on our website we may be able to help you find some shelters in Utah. If you would prefer to find a safe place to go sooner, you can text SAFE and your current address to 69866 to reach out to National Safe Place, which can help you find a nearby safe location for youth in crisis, like a YMCA or library, and the phone number of a local youth shelter. Once at the safe location, a representative from a youth-serving agency might meet with you to help address your immediate needs. Once you are in a safe place it can also be helpful to build your support system by potentially talking to your family, friends, or friends’ parents about your parents sending you to therapeutic boarding school. If you think it would be helpful, we also offer a conference call service in which we could mediate a call between you and your parents.

Thank you again for reaching out to the National Runaway Safeline. Feel free to reach out again anytime as we are available 24/7 and are completely confidential. Best of luck!
Please remember you can reach us directly by calling our 24 hour hotline, 1-800-RUNAWAY (786-2929) or through our Live Chat.
